Annija Anna Zarina (b. 2000) is a Latvian composer currently based in The Hague.

Specializing in classical contemporary music, she is pursuing a bachelor's degree in composition from the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music. Her principal teachers are Martijn Padding and Jan van de Putte.

Annija mainly writes for chamber ensembles, and her compositions focus on reflecting her inner quest for meaning and fulfilment. Using simplistic means to create a sense of ambiguity can be described as the main characteristic of her work.

In 2022, Zarina was chosen to participate in the Young Composers Meeting organized by Orkest De Ereprijs, where her piece was honored with the St. Frank van der Wal Fonds award. She has also been honored with the JVLMA Patrons' Awards, receiving the Nick Gotham Award in 2023 and the Ilga Stauvere Award in 2024.

In 2024, she is set to engage in various projects, including involvement in the IRCAM Summer Academy in France, and attendance at the Bang on a Can masterclasses and festival in Massachusetts, USA.

Zarina's works have been featured in performances by esteemed ensembles such as the Residentie Orkest, Latvian Radio Choir, Signum Quartet, Orkest de Ereprijs, New European Ensemble, among others. Her works have been performed in Orgelpark Amsterdam, Muziekgebouw Amsterdam, deciBels Contemporary Music Festival, The Royal Conservatory of The Hague Spring Festival, Amsterdam String Quartet Biennale and others.
